Rota For Car Lover
Rota
BACKGROUND INFO
When car enthusiasts go to a car meet, we like to compare all the different cars and what type of modifications the owners have implemented on their cars. Maybe someone sees certain rims they like that might be cool but don't know what kind of tire rim it is, or how much they're worth.
Problem
Someone that has a growing passion for cars has no way of figuring out the type of rims a car has.
Solution
Create an app that helps users take shots of a certain car rim that will help identify specific information about the rim.
USER PERSONA
Target Market or Persona are car enthusiasts or people that are starting to get into cars. They follow trends in fashion tech and cars (hypebeasts basically). Darren is a photographer and has slowly been exposed to cars through friends. He wants to join the car scene like the rest of his buddies and hopefully modify his own car in the future even if it means swapping out the rims. Darren sees these cool sets of rims at a car meet this one day but has no way of identifying them.
COMPETITOR COMPARISON
The thing with current competitors is that no one is really tapping into the market of being able to identify certain mods or parts of a car. Most are used to locate areas and buildings as well as navigation. Car Lens has been one of the only exceptions in terms of direct competitors because of their ability to identify cars which are still in the early stages of development. What makes Rota stand out more is that it appeals to individuals that are within the car enthusiast scene. Going to the car meets, drag races and whatnot.
Creating a community where people can get together on forums and converse about their interests in cars would be a great idea.
The only reason why different modifications on all car types is at a low value is because the cost of being able to implement that into the app would take too long and would require an enormous amount of work. Because that is not our priority it is given a low value.
APP FEATURE PRIORITIZATION
Although being able to scan a car's rims and have it identify the specific type is an awesome idea for an app. There has to be more than just taking pictures of car rims or users will definitely forget about the app. Doing this feature prioritization helps breakdown what aspects of the application are the most important as well as the most interesting to the users.
STYLE
The style tile was inspired by giving the app a dark and cool color atmosphere/vibe. Neutral colors that blend together well. Giving a bold and assertive font that mixes well with the color palette. Keeping to a maximum of three main colors will help keep the application in brand with everything else.
WIREFRAME
Wireframing was centered around creating applications around the scanning process of the application. Since this app is focused primarily on the user being able to scan and find info, we wanted to keep the overall layout simple. The wireframing was mainly how to get the user from point a to point b, so the onboarding is simple and the homepage only pertains information to what the user is looking for. As for the scan portion, we just mimicked other similar scan apps.
FINAL & MOCKUP
The overall view of the mockup is sleek and simple. We want the user to stay engaged and really use the app for what it’s worth, which is finding car rims that they need more information on. Everything about the app is streamlined into a few pages that allow users to find the info they need. On the homepage, we only left a swipe through and some block images to give some general info on what people think are the current trends or popular info on car rims. Also Rota is latin for wheel, so you can add that info onto your final website.
FUTURE
I think the ability to scan a car's wheels and have it identify the type is a great way for people that are enthusiasts to gain information about certain things. I think by itself being able to scan just the wheels might seem a bit mundane. I think in the future if i were to fully design this app there are other future features I would like to add to the app.
-
Ability to scan different car parts
-
Ability to scan and identify different types of cars
